Extreamly good and very challenging. My suggestion are adding tempory power ups for things like defense, and the player bounce off enemies when the player hits them, helping him/her regain control. Good luck with the final product, I'll be watching!

The first boss's only get hit when u hit the purple part, change that, and that's it. overall a very good game, and with a little tweaking, may be front page material. Good luck and I hope I helped.
